Setting the tone with lo-fi guitar and percussive details with add libs and the word “sex“, before expanding into a crisp funk-soul-rock soundscape, and the exclamation, “I’m going out tonight y’all”, Nick Campbell Destroys opens his new single Fancy Jeans with vibrancy and dimensionality.
The opus is a collaborative effort with Jacob Luttre on vocals, and we learn that Fancy Jeans is “a mega funk blast about natural selection designed to encourage wholesome and friendly socializing at super fun parties.”
We appreciate the narrative driven elements of the piece and how charismatic both instrumental and vocal performances are, full of poetic nuance and commentary on the human condition. The cosmic soundscape is out of this world!
Fancy Jeans is the first single from Nick Campbell Destroys’ debut album, Art. When discussing the sound of Fancy Jeans, Nick Campbell playfully says, “If an alien were asked to compose a top 40 single after only listening to Frank Zappa and 20 minutes of pop radio it would sound a lot like Fancy Jeans.”
We adore the soulful harmonies, and Jacob Luttre‘s vocal timbre as he takes us on a narrative journey that Bruno Mars fans will definitely be able to connect with.
We have added Fancy Jeans to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream Nick Campbell Destroys’ wider discography including Goodbye Moonmen and Central Park West.
