Setting the tone with rippling keys and a dynamic, high octane synthscape, Dyan Tai opens We Can’t Forget with cerebral textures and the lyrics, “You know I notice, yeah I always do, am I a burden? Ain’t got a clue…”
The opus expands into a vibrant and anthemic bop with psychedelic detailing and introspective lyricism, as Dyan Tai shares a tale of “rejection and heartbreak and how those feelings never truly leave”. The rising artist from Sydney confesses, “It is also about finding comfort in your tribe and the (queer) community.”
We Can’t Forget features live Guzheng (harp) by Chinese-Australian artist, Mindy Meng Wang 王萌, adding dimensionality to the piece as a throbbing bassline takes us on a trip and inspires us to dance.
We Can’t Forget comes with a fierce and cinematic music video featuring an inspiring cast of emerging QTPOC artists that Dyan helped foster as the founder of Worship Queer Collective. The breathtaking visual was filmed at The Powerhouse Museum where Dyan is currently completing his residency as one of the Generations Music Fellows mentored by Astral People.
As a music producer and artist, Dyan Tai has collaborated with GAUCI, Jamaica Moana, AnSo, Salllvage and has performed at festivals and cabaret events such as Sydney Mardi Gras and Heaps Gay alongside artists such as Marcus Whale, BVT.
Dyan‘s EP is expected to drop in November, and we cannot wait to hear it. In the meantime, we have added We Can’t Forget to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream Dyan‘s wider discography including Freedom and Expiratory.
