Setting the tone with an enigmatic, reverberating guitar and celestial tones, Phoenix Mundy opens Cologne with the situational lyrics, “We were young in the backseat of a car, well I’d be lying if I said they don’t wish this from afar…”
The opus expands into a dreamy, alt-rock soundscape with atmospheric vocals as Phoenix Mundy delivers a dimensional performance on a song about “the dire realisation that the chemistry you thought you had with the guy you were seeing was a complete farce.. it wasn’t pheromones, it was just cologne…”
Phoenix Mundy‘s delivery is charismatic and full of poetic prowess and we appreciate the range in her voice and performance style. The soundscape is vibrant and diverse in instrumentation style which brings to life the emotive up and downs of the song.
The opus comes with a trippy-retro music video which sees our protagonist deliver an epic performance of her single, and bring to life her message and the narrative of the track with playful visuals and cinematography.
Fans of Blondie and Talking Heads will be able to connect with Phoenix Mundy, but it is clear that she is also creating a vibe of her own. The song which is based on a real situation, “prompts us to see the funny side in the things we can’t control.”
