Setting the tone with luscious guitar layers, expanding into an alternative-rock meets indie-pop hybrid soundscape with soaring add libs, The Starkillers open Are You Thinking Of Me with a euphoric and introspective energy.
With atmospheric vocals, The Starkillers share a commentary on the human condition and connection, confessing, “We wanted to express that difficult time when you knew something wasn’t going to work out in a relationship, and the frustration that comes with that self realization.”
We appreciate the poetic nuance and depth of the message that The Starkillers share with Are You Thinking Of Me, and learn that the sound that we experience with their debut establishes the mood for what we can expect from their upcoming album.
Speaking on the themes of the wider record, the band comments, “When we started writing the album, we saw a pattern begin to form with our songs, and decided to go with it. The album goes through the cycle of a toxic relationship, and all of the stages you’d find yourself going through.”
The tell us, “We almost didn’t include the single Are You Thinking of Me on the album because of how early we wrote it. But then realized how important it was to the central theme and how well it built onto the other songs. This single is really about someone in a relationship, coming to the realization that it isn’t what they want or need it to be. That the relationship is one sided and might always be if they stay with that person.”
Founded by frontman Jon Omen on lead vocals, The Salt Lake City four-piece also consists of Chris Panic on bass, delivering a dimensional performance, Doc Taylor on drums, giving us powerful and immersive experience, and Mike Fiedel on guitar, laced with intricacy!
They cite The Killers, Foster The People, Walk the Moon and Foo Fighters as some of their influences, which we can feel come through on the composition, although it is clear that The Starkillers are creating a universe of their own.
Fusing classic, nostalgic elements with a futuristic production mix, we are hypnotised by Are You Thinking Of Me, and appreciate the vulnerability and authenticity that the band shares.
We have added Are You Thinking Of Me to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we anticipate future releases from the rising stars!
