Setting the tone with a celestial texture, acoustic guitar and immersive drums, Lucas Fournier opens Lakeside with intrigue, dimensionality and the situational lyrics, “I missed your birthday, so I took you out today, we talked about burning and whether I’m turning everyone away…”
The opus expands into a luscious indie-pop meets soft-rock soundscape, and we are mesmerized. We appreciate Lucas’ poetic nuance and unique brand of storytelling. The rising artist tells us, “Lakeside is the first track off an EP that I am releasing soon. It is a track about insecurity, growing up, and accepting responsibility.”
Lakeside evolves with a minimalist break down featuring the sound of pouring rain and piano, adding to the cinematic edge that Lucas Fournier has already created, before expanding once again into an orchestral finale, which is simultaneously intricate, epic and emotive.
We learn that at the age of nineteen, Lucas Fournier has one goal “to spend his life making music that excites him, pushes boundaries, and connects with like-minded music lovers.”
The artist is currently in his third year studying classical music at McGill University, and appreciates indie folk aesthetic of Novo Amor and early Bon Iver, along with the genre-bending discography of Radiohead, and the outside-the-box production of Tony Berg on albums like Phoebe Bridgers’ Punisher, although it is clear that he is creating a universe of his own! His intention is to connect with people who go through similar experiences to himself.
We appreciate Lucas Fournier depth and message, and have added Lakeside to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream his wider discography including Indigo and Coves!
