We recently featured Jacob Rountree for his luscious, emotive and poetic new album, As I See It, so we were excited to hear that he had released the track, Definitions, as a single!
Definitions opens with a vibrant, plucked, electric guitar crescendo expanding into a bold and immersive vibe, whilst Jacob delivers the thought-provoking and conceptual lyrics “Strip us down to atoms that are never shown, turn it around to flesh and bone, easy does it now, so vulnerable…”
We are in awe of Jacob Rountree‘s atmospheric vocals and how the opus evolves into an enigmatic and dramatic soundscape, in line with the message of the song which touches on the themes of freedom, society and the human condition. The cymbal crashes are dimensional, and Definitions is full of melodic and percussive details, making it a perfect fit for the soundtrack to expansive TV shows such as House of the Dragon or Westworld.
Definitions features lyrics full of wisdom including “the future is untold, we must learn to let it flow…“, and Jacob Rountree‘s brand of narrative-driven story is engaging and exquisite as he shares his profound perspective and encourages us to choose love and oneness.
Jacob Rountree is an alternative-folk, indie-rock musician, who performs and records with Cole Thorne on the djembe, bass and harmonies and
Alex Speed on guitar, keys, and vocals. The result is a robust and immersive soundscape which is both cinematic and magnetic.
We learn that Jacob started his musical career in Spokane, Washington, where he was inspired to develop a modern take on classic artists such as Bob Dylan, Nick Drake and Pink Floyd as well as current artists; the Black Keys, Shakey Graves, Ben Howard, and Xavier Rudd, although it is clear that Jacob Rountree is creating a universe of his own.
We appreciate Jacob’s message and soundscape, and have added Definitions to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream his album As I See It!
