Setting the tone with vibrant and seductive plucked guitar, O’Reilly & Vincent open The Roof Falls In with the situational and reassuring lyrics, “If the sky falls in, I’ll try to catch it, if the roof falls in, we’ll build it again…”
The opus expands into a euphoric acoustic-folk hybrid soundscape, as O’Reilly & Vincent translate a traumatic personal experience into an optimistic message of hope and security.
Speaking on the conception of The Roof Falls In, the rising duo confess, “This song arose out of an incident when we came home from holiday to find our sitting room ceiling had collapsed. There was debris and dust everywhere. You can imagine our horror!”
We appreciate the way in which the song takes a domestic crisis and delivers the wholesome message that “we can cope with anything life throws at us.”
The composition features an evocative tempo change, and we love the classic Irish foot stomping and clapping, along with the organic presence of the violin and flute. The wisdom that Dublin singer and musician Finn O’Reilly, and Shropshire poet Rod Vincent share with their second single from their second album Uturo is Breathing, is tangible and we are grateful for their authenticity.
O’Reilly & Vincent formed in the Spring 2019, out of a wave of creativity in a single weekend, when Finn started to sing some of Rod’s words.
It is no surprise that their previous releases have been played widely on regional radio stations including Janice Long’s show on BBC Wales. Anna and the Apple, was picked up by BBC Introducing.
We have added The Roof Falls In to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream the duo’s existing discography including Men & Books.
