Setting the tone with vivid and enigmatic, plucked guitar, Moses Mikheyev opens Black Sky, White Moon with the fantatastical lyrics, “Let’s go to a place that we only know, where Autumn blooms flowers and in Summer it snows…”
The opus expands into a charismatic, indie-folk-pop hybrid as Moses Mikheyev touches upon themes of love, the human condition, celestial bodies and adventure.
We appreciate the poetic nuance of the lyricism and the vibrant reality that the artist paints with his sonic and lyrical landscape. We learn that Black Sky, White Moon is the second single from Moses Mikheyev‘s debut album I ONLY HAVE A HUNDRED YEARS TO LOVE YOU, due for release in September 2023. The song was recorded using vintage analog equipment along with tape machines, which give a nostalgic and immersive energy to the composition.
The rising artist from LA cites Coldplay, Anberlin, Blue October, The Killers, Keane, Lifehouse, The Paper Kites and The National as some of his influences, although it is clear that Moses Mikheyev is creating a universe of his own, especially considering that he is also a science fiction novelist!
Elaborating on the muse of Black Sky, White Moon, Moses confesses, “I wrote the song for a Spanish girl I fell in love with back in Seattle. We made out one night under a black sky, with only the stars shivering above us, and I felt like I could love her for a hundred years. I wrote the song to celebrate the magic of that moment.”
We have added Black Sky, White Moon to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream Moses Mikheyev‘s wider discography including Hollywood Hills and Somewhere in My Blood.
