Setting the tone with cerebral vocal tones and cosmic textures, fused with bold drums and intricate detailing, Kongress opens his single, Summer Days with dimensionality, intrigue and the lyrics, “Breeze, I feel the Summer, the days are longer…”
The opus expands into a electronica meets synth pop soundscape, and we are mesmerized. We learn that Summer Days was actually written in 1967! Speaking on the release of the song, Kongress confesses, “I came across the lyrics recently and after playing the old music, I figured it needed some new music for today.”
We appreciate the psychedelic nature of the soundscape and Kongress‘s charming, uplifting and charismatic vocal delivery. The more industrial elements of the soundscape help to further dimensionalize the composition and we can imagine fans of The Cure really connecting with Summer Days.
Summer Days comes with an incredibly unique music video featuring footage created by Kongress from over 30 years of Coney Island’s Mermaid Parade! An incredible idea that has stood the test of time. We are in awe of the concept and the timespan that Kongress has allowed his art to marinate with. Iconic, to say the least.
Kongress began in 1975, and Punk Magazine’s John Holmstrom once declared Kongress to be, “The Most Dangerous Band in the World!”. An accolade that we love and had to shed light on!
We appreciate the authenticity that Kongress shares with his art, and have added Summer Days to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to explore his wider discography including Running with the Wolves and NuSense.
