As super fans of Wotts, we have covered their recent releases including Domino, LEMONADE and 6 Shooter, so we were extremely excited to hear the brand new, NO TAKE BACKS.
Drawing us in with an enigmatic riff, and opening with Wotts‘ signature atmospheric vocal stylings, NO TAKE BACKS expands into a vibrant electronic pop soundscape, full of intricacy and dynamism.
We learn that NO TAKE BACKS is about “keeping negative forces out of your life”. The opus showcases that the duo will maintain their boundaries in the face of adversity. Ricky 100 from Wotts says, “It really is just a statement to people that try to bring you down when they see that you’re thriving or moving on”.
The composition features lush 80s analog synths and a robust bass-line, Jayem comments “I’ve got no shame saying that we like making music that can lift people’s moods, even if it’s only for a minute. If someone can vibe to this song and forget about the bad stuff for a bit, that’s mission accomplished for us.”
We always appreciate the energy that Wotts share with their artistry, and the optimistic and conscious edge that runs through their growing discography. The duo tell us that NO TAKE BACKS is heavily inspired by artists including Tame Impala and Dayglow, but there is no doubt that Wotts are cementing their own brand of nostalgic pop!
“I think that style is becoming our goal more and more. We love how artists like Tame Impala, M83 and Brothertiger can deliver something catchy, but also timeless”, says Jayem, whilst Ricky 100 adds, “Indie pop is our goal, but I think we’re having a lot of fun with exploring new sounds and really trying to build an atmosphere with our music”.
We have added NO TAKE BACKS to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream Wotts‘ wider discography including Domino, LEMONADE and 6 Shooter!
