Setting the tone with rippling drums and a dimensional synth texture, Gedalya opens Wake Up with the situational lyrics, “Joey works so he can make some money, he needs money so that he can live, I asked him what he was living for, he said that he had to go to work…”
Wake Up expands into a folk-rock hybrid soundscape, as Gedalya tells recounts individual stories including his own, and encourages us to open our minds and “wake up, wake up, it’s time to wake up…”
Gedalya confesses, “Wake Up was written after a trip to Israel where I was on my own spiritual journey. I thought a lot about life and how to get the most out of mine.” As humanity goes through a collective ascension and enlightenment, Gedalya‘s release is timely and much needed!
We appreciate the poetic depth of the opus, and the soundscape with which Gedalya shares his wisdom and story. Gedalya shares the intention for his art by tellings us that he is, “Just trying to use music as a tool for good!”, which we can feel come through with the lyricism and mood of Wake Up. We also learn that Gedalya has been visiting prisons and rehabs with his music non-profit ‘A New Song USA’, aiming to give hope and inspiration to others.
The altruistic artist has been busking on the streets of Brooklyn to further share his message, and leaves us with the profound quote, “When people use their greatest tool ā their intelligence ā and analyze their decision, they will often find the right path. With Wake Up, I want to encourage everyone to go that extra step in finding their best self and to live with more self-awareness.”
We have added Wake Up to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream the wider discography of Gedalya including A Knock at the Door / The Promised Land.
