Setting the tone with a celestial ripple, vocal add libs, a melodic synth and subtle bass notes, we are mesmerized by Ori Shlez‘s single, The One, which opens with the lyrics, “Is anybody there to hold me, when no-one seems to care? The days are long the nights are cold, time for me to reap what I sow…”
Featured artist Joy Ng delivers a charismatic and emotive performance, whilst multi-instrumentalist, Ori Shlez, takes us on an exquisite journey with a luscious, contemporary soul energy.
The One is Ori Shlez‘s follow up single to his debut, You’re My Blues, and we appreciate the poetic nuance of the piece, and the commentary on the human condition and love. The release forms part of Ori’s debut album, where he has been working with Grammy-winners to expand his unique production style.
We learn that the album expresses Ori’s love for his favourite musical genre. He cites Qunicy Jones as one of his influences, and we can feel that come through in his production style, although it is also clear that Ori Shlez is creating a soul-R&B-hybrid universe of his own, with a touch of Motown and 70s.
The One features epic production and an incredible vocal performance from Joy Ng, plus add libs and textured harmonies. Joy’s vibe is authentic and her vocals are perfection. Ariana Grande fans will also be able to connect with her energy!
We have added The One to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream You’re My Blues, and await the rest of Ori Shlez‘s debut album!
