Setting the tone with a funk-guitar lick, a dimensional beat and the lyrics, “Hey, had a couple (of) drinks tonight, I’m hella faded…”, Onbar opens his latest release GOOD with intrigue and dimensionality.
The opus expands into a seductive, indie meets alternative pop soundscape, as Onbar takes us on a journey full of charm and nuance. The rising artist from San Jose confesses that he wanted “to make something that made me feel good and in hopes to make the listener feel it too”, and we appreciate the dual action catharsis from the record for both listener and artist!
Created in collaboration with producer Patrick Hizon, the narrative of GOOD revolves around meeting someone at a bar, and courageously making one’s way to approach them. The romantic edge is apparent in Onbar‘s sensual vocal timbre as he sings, “I’m not playing around… I’ll make you feel GOOD…”
Fans of Frank Ocean will definitely be able to connect with Onbar, although it is clear that he is creating a universe of his own.
Onbar, also known as Troy Tuan Truong or The Vietnamese Prince, was born and raised in San Jose. He is an artist of life. His love for creativity comes naturally as he takes everything around him as inspiration to create. His artist name “Onbar” was born when he was working at a coffee shop. Being “on bar” refers to the person making the drinks. As he was slingin’ espresso, he thought Onbar sounded like a cool stage-name. From that moment on, Onbar would practice singing and dancing during his shifts and everyone in his shop would vibe to it.
We have added GOOD to our New Music Spotlight, whilst we continue streaming Onbar‘s wider discography, including MANIAC and BABY BLUE.
