Setting the tone with a glistening synthscape, immersive keys and atmospheric guitar, Haseya opens Mirror with the situational lyrics, “I never see you when it’s Winter, I never see you when it’s cold at night or snows at night…”
The opus expands into an ode to self-refection, as Haseya takes us on an introspective journey with the lyrical hook, “I gotta face the Mirror…”. Speaking on the meaning of the song, Haseya confesses, “It’s about situationship mindgames and the desire to evolve out of them.”
The rising artist from Wellington in New Zealand adds with wisdom, “The refrain begs the question ‘What is facing the mirror?’ I believe it’s any action that furthers self-mastery.”
We appreciate the poetic nuance, depth and authenticity shared in the composition, along with Haseya‘s raspy vocals and dimensional bass, fused with a funk-soul energy which has us reaching for the repeat button!
We learn that Mirror is the realized counterpart to Haseya‘s most recent single, rorriM. The two songs work together as a concept release by showing the progression of self-discovery.
Haseya cites Jungle, Anderson. Paak, The Beatles, NomBe, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Arctic Monkeys, Maribou State and Steve Lacy as some of his influences, although it is clear that he is creating a sound of his own!
Mirror has been added to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream Haseya‘s first two singles, rorriM and Run.
