Immersing us into a luscious, full band, alternative rock energy, Truckerbomb open their new single, Break My Heart with the situational lyrics, “You’re on the Eastside, and I’m on the West, we’ll meet up some other time, I guess. I miss your smile, your smell and your long dark hair…”
The opus expands with poetic nuance to tell the story of a relationship that never was. Break My Heart features emotive lyrics from Troy Richardson. We learn that the words document the narrator’s wish to keep the one-sided love he never obtained alive rather than settle for a lesser one in real life.
We appreciate the design of the track, which reminds us of iconic bands like The Beatles, as the chorus lends itself to a raw and authentic energy with the powerful lyrics, “You’re the only one I wanna see, you are the best thing that never happened to me, you’re the only one I wanna be with, you are the only one I want to Break My Heart…”
The guitar performance and backing vocals on Break My Heart are from Peruvian artist Ursula Lari, and the single was recorded at Stairway Studios by the legendary Fernando Perdomo.
We love the open nature of the lyricism, which is delivered with candour, in line with the concept of the song. It gives us conceptually sad vibes, but at the same time, highly relatable as we can all create a version in our mind of being with someone, and sometimes it never comes to fruition. We can often feel a sense of loss and heartbreak from our emotions alone.
Growing up, singer-songwriter-bassist Troy Richardson spent many summers in South Dakota. Compared to his Minneapolis home, it felt like the wild west. Even though he’d go on to spend most of his time playing in rock bands, he never forgot the vibe of those truck stops and diners that cranked up classic ’70s country. Inspired by that experience, and the southern rock of the ’80s that threw a little bit of every style into the mix, he formed TruckerBomb to bridge alt- country and Americana with alternative and hard rock.
Break My Heart has been added to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we explore Truckerbomb‘s wider discography including Next Last Drink and Mobridge, South Dakota.
