We recently featured 1st Base Runner for his psychedelic and surrealist release, Near Me, so we were thrilled to learn that he had also released a visual for Planter, as part of his Light Roars EP.
Establishing the mood with intricate, arpeggiated bells, 1st Base Runner opens Planter with intrigue, dimensionality and the lyrics, “Wish I was more like you, than I could ever be, wish I was more like you than I could ever be…”
The opus expands with an industrial bass-line and bold hybrid-rock drums to create a tangible energy in line with the concept of the lyricism, which touches upon themes of the human condition and society. We love the instrumental segments which feature detailed synth and guitar work fused with more atmospheric vocals from 1st Base Runner. We are in awe.
The glitch sounds add the more cerebral energy that we love from 1st Base Runner, whilst he exclaims, “Ethical corporations: NOT FOR SALE“, emotively.
Planter comes with a cinematic, film-noir visual directed by 1st Base Runner‘s frequent collaborator Heather Gildroy, which features an epic performance from the artist, and detailed camera work that has us hypnotized.
1st Base Runner‘s 3rd EP Light Roars was released on June 13th and it continues to climb both the Commercial Specialty Charts (where it’s currently the #17 album) and the NACC Radio charts (where it’s currently #101, and the 5th highest EP).
Fans of My Bloody Valentine, Radiohead, Joy Division, Nine Inch Nails, Aphex Twin and Godspeed! You Black Emperor should find common threads in 1st Base Runner‘s music, but it is clear that he is creating a frequency of his own.
We have added Planter to our New Music Spotlight, whilst we continue to stream 1st Base Runner‘s wider discography!
