We recently featured Stephen Lavine as he channelled life force energy on Midnight Manic Thoughts, so we were thrilled to hear that he just released the brand new, East Coast Regret.
Establishing the mood with immersive keys, organic percussive details, glistening notes, guitar licks and vocal textures, Stephen Lavine opens East Coast Regret with intrigue and a somewhat melancholic energy.
Drawing us in with the lyrics “Come sit and watch the dam break, I’ll hold your hand, we can count all the crack and make a plan to build it up again…”, Stephen Lavine takes us on an emotive journey with East Coast Regret.
Speaking on his artistry, Stephen confesses, “I’m drawn to deep and existential themes and I try to pack a lot of big feelings into my small songs.” East Coast Regret does just that, as we learn that it is about recovering from trauma and learning how to live with the constant feeling that something tragic is about to happen.
Stephen elaborates on his message, “It’s hard to be present in the good moments of life when you’re constantly daydreaming the worst case scenario is around the corner. I often find myself in a maze of worry, fear and anxiety wondering if I’ll ever make it out.”
The opus is introspective but laced with optimism as Stephen says, “The mood here is hopeful that there is a way to move on and find peace in this life and be present for the people I love.”
We appreciate the depth, catharsis and authenticity that Stephen Lavine shares, as well as the poetic nuance of his lyricism which is thought-provoking. East Coast Regret has been added to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream Stephen Lavine‘s wider discography including Midnight Manic Thoughts and Never Knew My Ghost.
