Establishing the mood with atmospheric vocals and a vibrant, immersive synthscape frequency with padded drums, Doll Klaw opens her latest single, Music Fest with intrigue and a narrative.
The opus expands into an indie-pop energy to tell the story of a brief love connection at a music festival. Speaking on the inspiration and story behind the composition, Doll Klaw confesses, “I wrote this song after having a quick fling at a music festival, because I was not properly prepared to camp and was literally sleeping on rocks, while this person had a full on mattress in their tent.”
The rising artist from Los Angeles elaborates, “Little did I know, this person also lived in my city and wanted to pursue things after the festival but unfortunately I did not.”
The affair might have been brief but inspired Doll Klaw enough to translate it into the atmospheric bop that is Music Fest!
Doll Klaw cites FKA twigs, Remi Wolf, AURORA, Ela Minus, Vagabon and Eartheater as some of her influences, although it is clear that she is creating a universe of her own! We learn that Music Fest itself was also inspired by Doja Cat’s Say So. Doll Klaw comments, “Mainly like that essence of chill but dancey flirty vibe.”
We appreciate the immersive and dynamic soundscape, and have added Music Fest to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream the wider discography of Doll Klaw including Inside and Angelica!
