We recently featured Derek Lee Goodreid for his iconic blues-rock anthem, Born to Raise Hell & Sing the Blues, so we were thrilled to hear that he had just released the brand new single, Breakthru Hardtimes.
Immersing us with a cymbal crash and intricate percussion, Breakthru Hardtimes opens with bold and enigmatic electric guitar notes, before Derek Lee Goodreid sings the introspective lyrics, “Worry, all up in my mind, worry, got me deaf, dumb and blind, gotta breakthru these hardtimes to find you’re gone get left behind…”
The opus expands into a soulful classic rock energy as Derek Lee Goodreid takes us on a journey which touches upon existential themes of the human condition. The bluesy number will resonate with fans of Black Keys, Ben Harper and John Mayer, but it is clear that Derek Lee Goodreid is creating a universe of his own.
We learn that the song was inspired after a couple of tough years for the rising artist from Perth in Australia, which included relationship failures, unemployment and health problems. The “gritty yet tender blues ballad” has been a cathartic tool for the artist and served as an epiphany for Derek.
He comments with wisdom, “From failure we can learn and grow, so don’t be afraid of it. There is no room for ruminating on the past and the negative thoughts that come from it when you have a clear mind focused on success.”
Derek adds, “It took some time and it was difficult to see the light but with some professional support and good people in my life I managed to crawl my way up from the hole I was in. This song was my anthem through those times.”
Born and raised in the land down under, Derek has always been drawn to music. He began playing guitar at the age of 18 and soon found his true passion in songwriting. Over the years, Derek has honed his skills and developed his own signature sound sharing his battle with PTSD and his special brand of black humour that is sure to please any music lover.
We appreciate the inspirational message the the luscious soundscape that accompanies Derek Lee Goodreid‘s message. We have added Breakthru Hardtimes to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we stream his wider discography!
