Establishing the mood with percussive details, footsteps and a doorbell, before expanding into an genre expansive frequency with vocal add libs that further immerse us in the narrative of the opus, Dominick 7 (aka Dominick Seven) opens his single, Last Call with intrigue and dimensionality.
The song evolves with a vibrant electric guitar performance and the situational lyrics, “Another week has come and gone, I’m about to hang it up…” as Dominick 7 takes us on a narrative based journey.
We appreciate the artist’s poetic nuance, the immersive trip that he takes us on. The cerebral production details, and his charismatic and unique delivery, give us a sense of proximity to the artist and his story.
We learn that Dominick is a MECA robot pilot that lives in a future post-apocalyptic Cyberpunk World (described by the artist as Bladerunner meets Tron).
The artist elaborates, “He is constantly exploring the galaxy and creating new music, and also is charged with defending what is left of one of the last major Metropolis of this planet, while most of the human race migrated decades ago to other planets across the galaxy. The character loves music and is constantly listening to old records, which he scavenges from ancient destroyed buildings. After he goes back to his flat and DJ’s the music and learns how to play them on his electric guitar. He eventually managed to get his hands on a time travel bracelet device (which he stole), so each time he discovers new music from his expeditions, he travels back in time to find artists and vocalists. With this he is able to travel to the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, 2000s, etc… The story develops with each artists he finds.”
The opus comes with an 8-bit style music video directed and created by Emmanuel Sotela which takes us on this magnetic and empowering journey with our protagonist.
Some of Dominick 7‘s sonic influences include Quincy Jones, Dr. Dre, Mark Ronson and Diplo, and visual inspirations include Gorillaz and Daft Punk, but it is clear that he is creating and existing in a universe of his own.
We have added Last Call to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we also listen to Dominick 7‘s debut single, The Basement.
