We recently featured Mia Mormino as she took us to another dimension on her genius single, Alternate Reality, so we were thrilled to hear that she just released a brand new track, Joan of Arc.
Establishing the mood with immersive and enigmatic keys, Mia Mormino opens Joan of Arc with the situational and referential lyrics, “I was fighting with a hand of bones, hear the violence of my people roar…”
The opus expands with luscious vocal harmonies, bold drums and an orchestral energy as Mia Mormino brings to life the iconic story of Joan of Arc. In case you didn’t know, St. Joan of Arc is a national heroine of France. She was a peasant girl who, believing that she was acting under divine guidance, led the French army in a momentous victory at Orléans in 1429 that repulsed an English attempt to conquer France during the Hundred Years’ War. She was then burned at the stake for being a witch.
The cinematic masterpiece is designed to “inspire you to conquer your demons and fight for what’s rightfully yours.” Speaking on the intention of the track, Mia confesses, “I’ve always wanted a song that encapsulates the visual of standing up to those who’ve doubted your abilities, strength, and power so…I created it.”
She adds with passion and depth, “This song has many layers of meaning and as time has gone on, those layers have continued to stack. I’ve had this song in the vault for a little while now, debating when I should release it, how I should release it, but recently, the Supreme Court’s heinous decision making has added a new layer of meaning, which as a result pushed me to release this now.”
We learn that the song represents rebellion, transformation, and the journey of reclaiming the power we’ve always had but are often times manipulated into thinking otherwise. We appreciate the empowering energy and the poetic nuance of the lyricism.
As fans of Mia’s sound and existing discography, we can confirm that Joan of Arc is an iconic and emotive piece of artistry, released at a time when people need it the most, and for that we are grateful.
We have added Joan of Arc to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we stream Mia Mormino‘s wider discography including Little Girl and Mind and Body.
