Establishing the mood with a cerebral texture and the sound of a train, expanding into a luscious alternative rock meets metal hybrid frequency, Venustra open their single, Hopping The Train, with intrigue and drama.
The opus evolves into a bold and dimensional energy, with the vulnerable and conceptual opening lyrics, “Nightsticks trail me for burning buildings, my skin is torn by the hands of tall trees and I breathe for moments, dodging with my tricks, I’ve dreamt my nowhere and I feel homesick…”
Hopping The Train is the fourth track from Venustra‘s upcoming EP Rise Of The Ringmaster, and also serves as a prequel to the debut album, Candy Apples Custom Made.
We learn that the EP is about “an orphaned teen in a gritty early century-esque timeline, who comes into possession of an amulet that casts the desires of its holder. In this case, to take revenge on a sadistic headmaster of the orphanage that threw him out and caused a close friend of his to die because of food poisoning. These friends were supposed to run away to join the traveling circus that was set up miles out from town, but after this tragedy, ends up taking possession of their life forces with this amulet and burning the orphanage.”
Hopping The Train documents the moment “while police chase after him on foot, he sticks with his original plan to join the circus after chasing after a train that takes him in that general direction. After some thought, he convinces himself that he could take over the circus with this newer power, but not without bodily sacrifice…”
We love the way that Venustra build a narrative dimension for their art, and feel super immersed in the story. The lyricism is full of poetic nuance and we love the lyrics, “Another place to call my own, roaring applause from the audience, welcome to the show, bounty on my head…”
Venustra is the brain-child of an Austin, Texas musician Synderella Nervosa, and we are grateful for the depth that she shares with her vision, along with the complexities of the narratives that really immerse the listener in a vast and dynamic alternate universe.
We have added Hopping The Train to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream the wider discography of Venustra including Demon.
