We recently featured S J Denney for his polished and emotive single, All I’ve Ever Known, so we were thrilled to hear that he had just released the brand new, A Silent Scream.
Opening with the introspective lyrics, “I’m spending all my time, working on a plan for things I know that I can never understand…”, A Silent Scream expands into a thought-provoking indie-rock meets folk-pop energy.
Speaking on the meaning of A Silent Scream, S J Denney confesses, “This song focusses on a person who seems happy to the outside world, but is quietly burning inside.” He adds with wisdom, “Sometimes desperation can be subtle to the onlooker…”.
Expanding on his creative process, S J tells us, “Having grown up playing the clarinet, I decided that I wanted to include a woodwind section in one of my compositions. I think that arrangement, alongside the piano accordion, really adds to the track. Towards the end of the song, you’ll also hear me singing through a megaphone.”
The instrumental segments are out of this world and lend the opus to an epic sense of dimensionality. We love the charisma that S J performs with.
S J Denney is a singer-songwriter based in Essex, United Kingdom. He fell in love with music from an early age, after stumbling across vinyl copies of The Beatles’ White Album and Neil Young’s Harvest. S J was originally a choir boy and performed in a number of venues across his local county. His next stepping-stone was learning to play the clarinet. Whilst music theory gave him a solid foundation, Denney soon decided to focus his efforts on self- learning the acoustic guitar and writing songs.
S J has performed in various bands, duos and now as a solo artist. These endeavours have seen him gig across the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland.
We deeply appreciate the passion and authenticity with which S J Denney creates, and have added A Silent Scream to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream S J Denney‘s wider discography.
