Setting the tone with immersive, reverbed guitar with intricate layered notes and synths, heyimmanic opens his single, OD, with the situational lyrics, “Down a whole case, my bad, take a pill and I can’t stand…”
The opus expands into a luscious, atmospheric emo rap meets alternative pop soundscape, as heyimmanic details a night that changed his life.
Speaking on the event that was the muse for OD, heyimmanic confesses, “One night, I threw up black after mixing substances, which was the main inspiration for the hook.”
He adds with detail and openness, “I was actively taking benzos and drinking for about a year. Only later would I find out how deadly it really was and that the black in my vomit meant I was bleeding. It was a truly awful experience and I wouldn’t wish it upon my worst enemy.”
Sometimes, a defining moment helps change us for the better, and this is what OD exemplifies. The single comes with a cinematic music video that brings to life the lyricism in the song. Directed by his friend Garett aka @lukewarmsportsdrink, the visual features a moving performance from our protagonist.
heyimmanic is an emerging artist hailing from Cincinnati, Ohio, although he’s moved throughout the Midwest throughout his life. From an early age, heyimmanic fell in love with the sounds of bands such as blink-182 and Linkin Park, with his first album given to him by his older brother being Sticks and Stones by New Found Glory. In his late teens, he immersed himself into emo rap, taking lots of influences from convolk, lil peep and Juice WRLD. We can feel these influences in heyimmanic‘s sound, although it is clear that he is creating a dimension of his own.
We appreciate the distorted 808s and authentic energy that heyimmanic shares and are happy to learn that he is over 100 days sober from drinking now. He says, “My life has never been better. I’m much happier and in a way better position in life.”
He concludes, “It’s a hard truth but nobody can help you but yourself. Only then can people help you change.”
OD has been added to our New music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream heyimmanic‘s wider discography including ANXiETY, THRiVE and MY REGRETS.
