Setting the tone with warm rising textures and percussive details, Colline opens her single, So Much, with atmospheric vocals and poetic nuance. We are hypnotized.
The opus, which is in collaboration with Still Sound, expands into a luscious synth pop meets electronica hybrid soundscape as Colline delivers a message about “the hardships we, as human beings, go through when it comes to the people we value in our relationships…”
Sometimes this can be one of the hardest elements of the human condition. Proximity to a person that doesn’t fully understand your wavelength. Colline says with wisdom, “It requires darkness to find light and love in what we cherish. A relation that takes time to nurture, but what comes after is always a form of bliss, beauty and love; we all wish to have in our lives.”
We appreciate the depth that Colline and Still Sound aka Martijn de Groot, create with. They tell us, “[We] have been working hard on writing music together and improving our steps into pop music. So Much is our first release as a duo. It is clear to us that in this day and age of being an unsigned artist is the main way to go.”
We learn that the pair had the same musical influences from Asia and America, and their musical vision was aligned when they met. Martijn as a long-time experienced audio engineer and music producer, and Colline as a vocalist, and songwriter, they perfectly complimented each other.
Colline made the first demo of So Much at a time where she had difficulties in her relationship. Martijn heard the demo and immediately decided to produce and co-write the track. She confesses, “[Martijn] helped me improve my English accent, and that came with it’s own fair share of challenges. I’ve lived in different countries. English is the main language I use with friends and work but it was mainly in a community of expats.”
She adds with wisdom and self-reflection, “At some point I was also a bit scared to develop this song further, because the story is much more personal than what I used to write. Martijn was helpful all the way, and turned it into a hopeful energetic track that fills you with emotions and hope, of which I was dreaming. I love when songs have mixed emotions, this song feels like a big accomplishment for both of us.”
So Much has been added to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we anticipate further collaborations from the duo!
