Setting the tone with enigmatic, arpeggiated guitar with celestial synth detailing, ANVR open their new single Dust with the situational and conceptual lyrics, “I just saw, I just saw myself, right where I can’t tell, and here’s where I fall…”
The opus builds into an atmospheric alternative rock soundscape with intricate lyricism, and a powerful yet fluid delivery that is thought-provoking and immersive.
ANVR consists of Andreas Potgieter, who sings lead and is a multi-instrumentalist, along with producer and drummer Simon Orrey. The duo are based in Cape Town, South Africa.
Speaking on the creation of the track, Andreas comments, “I wrote the melody during a time where things were pretty intense, and I fell in love with the simplicity of the riff coupled with this hard-hitting and intense vocal – it allowed me to really ramp up the vocal complexity and deliver this impactful message.”
He adds with passion, “Also had this idea of this slow build – starkness – of the opening movement into a massive, impact drop.”
We appreciate the dimensionality of Dust which gives us a transcendental and ambient rock energy, with significant poetic nuance and cerebral production detailing. “This single feels really true to what we want ANVR to be about”, confirms Simon.
The duo cite Twenty One Pilots, One Republic, Imagine Dragons, Foo Fighters and X Ambassadors as some of their influences, although it is clear that they are creating a universe of their own.
The emotive track with a slow burn build and impactful drop delivers a cohesive message and we have added Dust to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we stream ANVR‘s wider discography including Open War and Glowing In Gold.
