Setting the tone with crisp and intricate acoustic guitar, Kyle Huskey opens his new single, Villain with the introspective lyrics, “I’m a curse, I’m a villain, a house without a ceiling, the last guy you’d wanna run into…”
Villain expands with a though provoking and vulnerable narrative as Kyle Huskey goes deep into his flaws. He shares his inner most feelings with the world in the authentic and emotive composition, as he sings, “I’m a villain you see…”
Speaking on the creation of Villain, Kyle Huskey confesses, “This song was written in March at 4AM in the cafeteria of a residential treatment facility in Palm Springs. I asked for help finally.”
He expands, “I decided not to take my guitar to rehab. Focus on my recovery. Oddly enough, three days before my arrival a guitar had been donated to the facility. I wrote many songs on that cheap guitar.”
“4AM each morning, I went to that cafeteria to write. Villain is the first song I wrote on that cheap guitar. I was terrified and riddled with guilt & shame. now I have 94 days sober…”, concludes the rising artist from Fountain Valley with his heart open.
We appreciate a song that comes from pure authenticity and real life experience, and this is exactly what Villain is. An opus that challenges the status quo and acts as catharsis for both the artist and listener.
Kyle Huskey cites Daniel Johns, Ruston Kelly, John Mayer, David Ramirez and Kurt Cobain as some of his influences, which we can feel come through in the record, although it is clear that Kyle is creating a lyrical universe of his own.
