Establishing the mood with rippling drums, driving guitar and atmospheric vocals, I Have Four Names opens his new single, The Krystal Method with the situational lyrics, “We see you there, hanging from the ledge again, what would your mother be thinking?”
The Sydney-based musician, who is also known as William Raleigh Vere Evatt takes us on a subversive and thought-provoking lyrical journey. We learn that The Krystal Method delves into the life of Krystal – the cover star of “Suspended Sentence”, I Have Four Names‘s album,
The song features I Have Four Names as a patronising narrator who tells Krystal to “pull her life together rather than just spending it balancing on the edge of greatness without ever taking the plunge”.
I Have Four Names adds, “She doesn’t take kindly to mansplaining in the story of the song”! We really appreciate the way that I Have Four Names creates distinct narratives for each of his songs. He says that The Krystal Method is “Continuing the trend of I Have Four Names using one song per project to delve into the ‘methods’ used by a particular person.”
I Have Four Names expanded his creative universe for this album by working outside of his previous comfort zone of self-production. Taking what originally would have been considered completed I Have Four Names recordings, countless days were spent refining the recordings with the help of Sydney producer maestro Jack Garzonio. Live drums were provided by the exceptional talents of Stewart Geddes, while the final songs were re-shaped by world-class mixing engineer Stefan Du Randt.
The Krystal Method has been added to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we also stream I Have Four Names‘s wider discography including Maybe No and Silent Partners.
