We recently wrote about Touch the Clouds for their powerful and conscious single, Feeling Light, so we were thrilled to hear that they just released the brand new, Tension.
Establishing the mood with two epic and reverbing guitar roars, which evolve into a luscious alternative rock frequency, we are immediately hypnotized by Touch The Clouds’ new single, Tension.
Opening with atmospheric vocals and the self-realized, introspective lyrics, “Right when everything’s tight for a minute, that’s when everything falls apart, that’s when everyone finds out what they’re made of…”, Tension expands to explore “the moments when we find ourselves caught up in the relentless tug of war between hustle culture and the self-care movement”.
Touch The Clouds add with wisdom, “The constant push and pull of everyday, modern life often leaves us yearning for solace, regardless of outcome, like the reset snap of an earthquake restores balance to the fault line.”
We love the authentic energy and vocal dynamism with which Touch The Clouds creates, and we learn that Tension is the second single from the upcoming 15-song, self-titled LP from the Detroit scene veterans.
The composition is produced by Joe Philips, Erik Maluchnik, Adam Cox and mastered at Third Man Mastering by His Name is Alive paragon, Warren Defever.
A certain generation may know him from post punk local heroes, Few and Far Between, Joe Philips is also recognized by throngs of millennials and zoomers as the voice behind the theme song to wildly popular TV series and movie Pokémon: Black & White.
Fans of Built to Spill, Band of Horses, Chamberlain, My Morning Jacket, Pearl Jam, Sunny Day Real Estate, Wet Leg and Joyce Manor will be able to connect with Touch The Clouds but they are certainly creating a sound of their own!
We have added Tension to our New Music Spotlight playlist whilst we continue to stream their wider discography including Feeling Light.
