With the combination of a hyper unique vocal add libs, fused with a melodic and rising percussive soundscape, and a psychedelic artwork, we knew we were in for an experience with Barbara Teresa‘s new single, Overrated.
Expanding into a Spanish language contemporary pop soundscape, Overrated takes us on a journey of the human condition and a love connection, self realization and personal boundaries.
We appreciate the dimensional and multi-lingual nature of the song and Barbara Teresa‘s charisma as she delivers a refined pop sound with catchy hooks and luscious vocal production.
Overrated is part of TEXT I NEVER SENT, the upcoming 6-track debut EP debut from Barbara Teresa, out this week. The song was produced by multiple-award winner Claudia Brant (Camila Cabello, JLo, Becky G, Luis Fonsi, Barbra Streisand, Ricky Martin, Carlos Santana), and Josh Cumbee, (Janet Jackson, Olivia Rodrigo, Madonna, and Adam Lambert, among others); the song was written by Barbara Teresa, Claudia Brant, and Josh Cumbee.
Speaking on her art, Barbara Teresa confesses, “Until recently, music was on the back burner for me. I’ve always loved singing, writing, and performing but my plans were to just go to college and do my thing.”
The LA-based pop star elaborates, “At the start of the pandemic in 2020, I was able to convince my parents to let me take a gap year after graduating from high school. They agreed, as long as I had a serious plan, so I decided to use that time to focus on my music with newfound professionalism.”
“My main focus is songwriting,” she explains. “I dabble a little on [recording software] Logic Pro and can lay down basic tracks, but I’m no expert. On the other hand, I can sit on the piano with my phone or a notebook beside me and just write for hours and hours. Songwriting has become an essential part of my life.”
We love Barbara Teresa‘s authenticity and sound and cannot wait to hear the EP on Thursday! Meanwhile, we have added Overrated to our New Music Spotlight playlist, as we stream her first three singles!
