Setting the tone with a light outdoors noise and two guitar plucks, Pio Hartnett opens his new single Broadway with the situational and romantic lyrics, “You moved through the crowd, like a vein of gold, gold, by the time you reached me, I was already bought and sold…”
Broadway expands with a luscious guitar soundscape performed by Zak Higgins to tell the story of an encounter and introspection into the meaning and mutual importance of that connection between Pio and his muse.
We learn that Broadway was inspired by a real life pandemic romance, where Pio had started to bond with someone over meaningful texts and a shared sense of longing. Fans of Frank Ocean and Matt Corby will definitely be able to connect with the piece.
We appreciate the lyricism and how Pio builds an intricate narrative with his song writing, his luscious layered harmonies and guitar solo are out of this world, and the percussive elements are dimensional. A lyrical highlight is the introspective, “Am I a friend, a means to an end, am I your go-to or one-in-ten?…” as he questions the situation at hand.
Pio Hartnett‘s intention is to bring self-awareness and relatable experiences to his music, as he navigates life. He comments, “As someone who has recently dived head first into making music for a living, I just want to create the most thoughtful and considered songs that I can. I’m lucky to be able to express myself in this way and as the world opens back up, I also get to share this experience with people in real life – which excites me beyond words.”
We love Pio Hartnett‘s authenticity and soundscape, and we have added Broadway to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we stream Grand Prix and Roses.
Pio’s next gig will be his full band performance debut with Breaking Sound at The Grand Social, Dublin on 28 July and is set to release his debut EP in August 2022.
