Setting the tone with vibrant and atmospheric electric guitar, Mote opens Industrial Love with dynamism, a high octane energy and the situational, yet introspective lyrics, “We’ve been on this course for a long time, you and me and everyone, this city is like a machine…”
Industrial Love in a an indie-rock opus that feels nostalgic and futuristic, in terms of production. We appreciate Mote‘s vocal tone and the dimensionality with which he performs. We love the themes he touches on including living in a city, connecting with love, the human condition.
The middle-8 is enigmatic and again demonstrates the different performance mediums that Mote can conveys his meaningful and relatable message with. Mote is an American songwriter and multi-instrumentalist whose eclectic and edgy electronica flavoured post-pop sounds like his adopted home of Berlin.
We learn that Mote is a a self-proclaimed introvert with a love of humanity and finds inspiration in the work of Bjork and Cocteau Twins, although it is clear that he is creating a universe of his own.
Originally from Nashville, Mote grew up around talented musicians and began writing songs and playing bands as young as seven years old. It did not take Mote very long to gain popularity and soon enough he was opening for touring acts like The Main Squeeze, Cappa, and Magic City Hippies.
In 2018, Mote became seriously ill with mono and was bed-ridden for nine months. As a cancer survivor, he was no stranger to adversity, and while his condition did not allow him to tour in support of his EP Get the Door, he beat the illness and moved to Berlin for a fresh start.
We are moved by the depth of Mote‘s artistry and have added Industrial Love to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream his wider discography including End This Ride.
