Setting the tone with a funk meets contemporary soul hybrid soundscape, Kaysien opens his single, Portals with the powerful lyrics, “Transformation, keep on changing…”
Portals expands into an intricate and emotive journey of self-realization, and we are hypnotized by the epic soundscape that Kaysien has created, as the multi-disciplinary artist performs bass, guitars, drums, percussion, synths, pianos, vocals, programming and flutes on the opus!
“Find me wild, find me free, find me open…” sings the rising artist from London as he cements his conscious message of freedom and expansion with the track. Speaking on his intention, Kaysien confesses, “I wanted to generate a feeling of defiant energy, playful belligerence and a sense of respect for life in this track, [with] mental health & inner strength is at it’s core.”
We adore the authenticity and raw energy that transpires from Portals, and love the high synths which really dimensionalize the track, giving it a genre expansive value in line with its meaning.
Elaborating on the meaning of Portals, Kaysien tells us, “This song is Part 3 of the BC Chronicles. It is a story that covers a lot of ground…trauma, healing, exploring Zen philosophies, life and death, all told from a personal timeline perspective.”
He adds, “Collectively, I feel we are being pushed and pulled in directions mostly against our will and with no true conclusion to this modern saga in sight. I wrote this song to relieve a sense of stagnation, to reaffirm the fact that life is change and that our internal worlds can be much different to the grim realities of the material. It is a counterpoint to depression.”
Kaysien cites the human condition, philosophy, the esoteric, family, groove and honesty as his muses, although comparisons to early Bowie would no go a miss, it is clear that Kaysien is creating a dimension of his own. He leaves us with the sage advice, “Our inner worlds are vast and untapped, be mindful of who you allow to visit…”
We have added Portals to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we stream Kaysien‘s wider discography including Raksha and Bcrow.
