Establishing the mood with bold and rising percussion followed by a panning, whirring details before we experience and immersive alternative rock drum beat and intricate electric guitar riffs, A BLACK RAINBOW opens his single, Hey Kids with intrigue and dimensionality.
An atmospheric and industrial vocal delivery from Wilson Gonzalez Ochsenknecht, who is the mastermind behind A BLACK RAINBOW engages us further as he commands us to “Fight the feeling…”
We learn that A BLACK RAINBOW stands for the outsider who doesn’t fit into the picture at first glance, but is nevertheless a soulful, profound, multi-layered person. A rainbow whose colors have yet to be fathomed.
We are mesmerized by the subversive bass-lines, fierce beats and the intricacy of the arrangement fusing rock’n’roll, nu-wave, electro and techno. The hook “Hey Kids, rock’n’roll…” is infectious and we love the urgency that the track builds with, sending us into another dimension.
At sixteen, Wilson Gonzalez Ochsenknecht was drawn to Los Angeles, where he studied film and art at the Idyllwild Arts Academy, but acting was never Wilson’s only passion, for at the same time, he was always making records.
His greatest strength: a diverse musical taste that blurs genre boundaries and with which he intuitively responds to the moods of each audience.
Alongside his fascination for the music of other artists is his passion for self-made music. His own songs allow him to show the world facets of himself that would otherwise remain hidden in acting.
In 2010, together with friends, he finally founded A BLACK RAINBOW – the music project of which the 31-year-old is still the singer and songwriter today – mysterious, dark and androgynous, yet always accompanied by a spark of hope.
We love the energy and soundscape that A BLACK RAINBOW with his vulnerable and authentic lyricism, and have added Hey Kids to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we also stream The Inbetween.
