She’s Mine releases subversive and avant-garde new single, Out My Shell

Establishing the mood with a panning and immersive descending synth, She’s Mine opens her single Out My Shell with the conceptual lyrics, “I came down to earth when I wasn’t out my shell…”

Out My Shell expands into a textured electronic pop energy with luscious synth strings and empowering lyricism touching upon the themes of being a misfit and knowing oneself.

Keara Koterwas, stage-named She’s Mine, is an American-born, British singer-songwriter and musician based in Manchester. Out My Shell follows her previous song It’s All to be Reversed, and her debut album which caught the attention of BBC Radio Manchester and BBC Introducing in Scotland. Iconic.

Veering from Hip-Hop, to sauntering pop avant-gardism, Keara is an artist unafraid to push boundaries. Exploring themes of feeling like an outcast, She’s Mine wrote the verses of her new single as a narrative about being an alien trying to fit into life on Earth.

She’s Mine credits her taste to Talking Heads, The Clash, Laurie Anderson, Peter Gabriel, but also to Katy Perry, Jessie J, Crystal Castles and Kate Nash, and says that the opus is an ode to Doja Cat and FKA Twigs, although it is clear that She’s Mine is creating a universe of her own! Out My Shell was mixed and mastered by Noah Curran.

Speaking on he sound, Keara says, “I want to genre bend. I don’t want to be limited to certain sounds I explore in my songs. I want my songs to be emotive, thought-provoking soundscapes with a beat that really slaps like Modern Pop. My goal is for each of my songs to be a stand-alone piece of art, but also something my friends and I can head-bang to. It’s time to break some rules.”

We love She’s Mine‘s vibe and her unique creative style, and have added Out My Shell to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we stream her wider discography including Over-Thinker and It’s All To Be Reversed.
