We recently featured STAND-IN when he took toxic relationship drama to the next level on Not Yours, so we were thrilled to hear that he just released the brand new single, Mine.
Establishing the mood with a subtle yet immersive pulsing synth and atmospheric vocal detailing, STAND -IN opens Mine with the compassionate lyrics, “Oh me oh mine, you don’t look fine, if we move too fast, just take your time, just take your time…”
Mine expands into a vibrant drum’n’bass energy with pitched vocal samples overlaid, adding dimensionality to the composition. We are obsessed. Half way through the track, we experience STAND -IN deliver some prophetic spoken word, which further showcases the diverse talent of the rising artist.
During the chorus of Mine, Anthony explains that he’s never experienced what it means to be in a healthy relationship as he delivers the emotive spoken words, “I never knew what it’s like to be wrapped up in your mind”. His point of view is shifted by the second verse where he recognizes that neither he or his muse will have full control over how they feel as he jokingly questions. “Is it my fault or yours though?”
The single depicts STAND-IN’s experience of “imposter syndrome during a healthy romantic relationship”. Mine is his sixth single of 2022, he captures a tale of how important it is to “love and accept yourself in order to truly feel the love and acceptance of others”. We appreciate this message deeply.
STAND-IN (also known as Anthony Westlake), a multi-faceted artist who began his career as a professional dancer. He taught himself to produce music while dancing on P!NK‘s Beautiful Trauma World Tour. A rough patch with his love for dance was quickly followed by a newfound love for writing and producing music.
Mine was written by STAND-IN and produced by himself along with his longtime collaborator, Sam Balatbat. The song was mastered by GRAMMY Award winning engineer, Michelle Mancini.
We have added Mine to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream all six songs that STAND-IN has released this year, including Aquarius and Know Me!
