Establishing the mood with enigmatic melodic keys, high electronic flute detailing along with a cute laugh, Mecca opens her new single, Only One with the conceptual lyrics, “Put in pressure I’m a diamond, little rough but I be shining, keep on looking you might find it…”
Only One expands with an alternative R&B meets trap-hybrid frequency, featuring elements of hyperpop in the vocal production. Lyrically, the song touches upon themes of confidence, self-awareness and assertive commentary on the worth and uniqueness of our protagonist.
Speaking on the meaning of the track, Mecca tells us, “Only One is literally about there being only one of me. There is only one YOU. I say ‘Yeah its Billions and Trillions but I’m that ONE‘. This song is a small introduction to who Mecca is. Every word I say is true.”
Mecca is from Atlanta Georgia and based out of LA. She is a trained dancer, songwriter, and has even stepped into the world of musical theatre. Growing up closely around music she always had a love for entertainment. Only One was written in her father’s home in Atlanta.
Speaking on her history in the artist, Mecca, who recorded her first song at the age of twelve, confesses, “I have to give credit to my parents. They put me in dance very young and from there I never really stopped. Performing that young built my confidence.”
The rising artist adds, “I love to entertain! Almost any chance I got to perform, I took! I used to perform on cruise ships in production shows, I lived in Tokyo, Japan for two years and performed for Disney!”
Mecca was just featured on the TV show, I Can See Your Voice on FOX, where she delivered an out of this world performance causing the audience’s jaws to drop to the floor. You can watch the performance via Mecca’s Instagram.
Elaborating on Only One, Mecca says, “I just wanted to write something that was honest, catchy, and a vibe. Its been two years since I released my last EP and I felt like this was the perfect comeback song.”
We love Mecca‘s energy, style and vocal range, and have added Only One to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we explore her wider discography including Gimme, Gimme.
