Setting the tone with vibrant electric guitar notes, Cooper Castelle opens his new single, You Were The One with the romantic, situational lyrics, “I knew you were the one, when you came up to me, and when you held my hand, you swept me off my feet…”
You Were The One expands into an indie-rock hybrid frequency, as Cooper Castelle takes us on an emotive journey which details his doubts about a connection that was once so strong. Cooper touches upon existential themes as he sings lyrics including, “I don’t know what’s real, I think I’m starting to doubt you… what is the point… I wanna die… “
Cooper Castelle is based in Seattle and wears it’s heart firmly on it’s sleeve, delivering catchy hooks and an immersive soundscape.
Fans of The Kinks and Arctic Monkeys will definitely be able to connect with Cooper Castelle‘s sound, although it is clear that he is creating a universe of his own.
From a wider perspective, Cooper’s lyrics are about longing to break free, or barely hanging on. He just announced his new EP, Welcome To My World, which is due for release on August 5, dubbed “a sonic tour through Cooper Castelle‘s open book musical consciousness”.
We appreciate Cooper’s relatable energy, and speaking on his art and this current era, he says “This music came from a period of isolation and it evokes emotions, like angst and loneliness, that a lot of people identify with right now. These songs are energetic with catchy hooks and unexpected twists & turns; they were written with a pop mentality, but they feel like rock n’ roll.”
We have added You Were The One to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we also stream Cooper Castelle‘s debut single, Come Undone!
