We recently featured Brendan Lane for his intricate and emotive release, Oh Child, so we were thrilled to hear that he had just released the brand new, Grand Prize!
Establishing the mood with crowd noise fusing into intricate acoustic guitar and organic percussive detailing, Brendan Lane opens his new single, Grand Prize with the lyrics, “I got bells on my toes, a heart for a nose, I’m the Grand Prize of the corner show, I’m all by myself, way up on the shelf, waiting for you to come along and give me some help…”
The song expands atmospherically as Brendan sings the melodic hook, “Take me home, I’ll give you all of my loving…”, and shares a touching story of longing for love as told through the eyes of a stuffed animal.
It’s a really cute and quite heart-wrenching narrative, which is also in collaboration with musician Eli Lev. Lev is an award-winning singer-songwriter known for his empathic writing and infectious folk-based sensibility. Lane has always been musically inclined; he grew up with a jazz musician father and surrounded by records as a child.
We are in awe of the luscious harmonies, which really dimenisonalize the track and make us feel warm and fuzzy inside, in line with the concept of the song!
On the making of Grand Prize, Lane confesses, “I had this melody in my head as I was driving up to Eli’s farm, and once I played it for him, the story just fell out of us. And then Austin Bello helped us fully realize this song.”
Lev elaborates, “Grand Prize means a lot to me as it gives voice to the hidden treasures in the world that we so easily miss in our daily lives.”
We love the message, intention and the energy that the pair have shared on this opus and have added the charming and emotive Grand Prize to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream the wider discography of both artists!
