Establishing the mood with an intricate banjo fused with a cosmic texture, Cossard & Flemmard open their single, Wandering Soul with atmospheric vocals, delivering an almost question and answer style format, which has us hypnotized.
The opus expands with a charming energy and luscious production, that feels immersive and warm, as we experience lyricism about the human condition, exploration and existentialism. We are in awe of the harmonies, the luscious and transcendental risers and the overall enigmatic sound design that feels unique and dimensional.
Speaking on the meaning of the track, the band confess, “This is a literal musical voyage into a land far away from home”. The expedition is inspired by the book The Music of Chance by Paul Auster.
Cossard & Flemmard is made up of Manu Bleton who is the main arranger and composer of Wandering Soul, he plays keys and sings lead on all the tracks. The song was written by Fabrice in the South of France, whilst Jessica Allossery sings backing vocals the track.
The music was composed and executed in Montreuil, near Paris, where people wear flowers in their hair and there are “a lot of good vibes”. This certainly comes though in the evocative and warm nature of the composition. We also love the cinematic visual that takes us on an adventure, where we meet lots of characters and experience the world and stunning landscapes through the eyes of Cossard & Flemmard.
Manu and Fabrice have known each other for years; incidentally they were in the same school but only really properly met years later, through mutual friends. The school was also attended by the iconic French new wave director Jean-luc Godard 126 years earlier.
Speaking on their inspirations, Cossard & Flemmard cite a range of influences from film scores, Randy Newman, Ennio Morricone, The Small Faces, Tamla, to punk rock and a bit of electro; Debussy and Franck Zappa. Tchaikowski and more, although it is clear that they are creating a universe of their own!
We appreciate the energy and depth that Cossard & Flemmard offer with their work and you can experience more of their artistry via Bandcamp!
