We recently featured Teen Mortgage for their dimensional ode to skateboarding, Smoked, so we were thrilled to see that they just dropped their music video for Valley!
The song kicks off with enigmatic and pulsing bass with elegant and atmospheric layered guitar riffs before the drums kick in and we are fully immersed in the opus.
Valley is the closing track from Teen Mortgage‘s award-winning EP, Smoked and delivers poetic nuance fused with a luscious grunge-hybrid soundscape, which Teen Mortgage describe as “neo-psyche stoner-punk”.
It is no surprise that the EP was named the best punk album at the of 2022 Washington Music Awards, aka The Wammies and that Teen Mortgage was also named Best Punk Band and took Best Punk Song for their single, Such is Life.
The cerebral energy of Valley is brought to life in the music video which sees the duo, comprised of James Guile on vocals and guitar, and Ed Barakauskas on drums deliver an emotive performance though the lens of an acid trip-esque visualizer.
The pair cite Ty Segall, Osees, Misfits, Melvins, IDLES, Dead Kennedys, Red Fang, Dead Kennedys, EYEHATEGOD and Sleep as some of their influences, although it is clear that they are designing a universe of their own.
Teen Mortgage has also shared the stage with The Coathangers, Jeff the Brotherhood Ron Gallo, Surf Curse, Big Business, Alex Lahey, The Chats, Bass Drum of Death, JEFF The Brotherhood, and Mike Krol to name a few.
Anecdotally, the duo once resuscitated someone from an overdose in a gas station. A pair of modern day heroes, if you may! On a personal note, James is an avid skater with an ever evolving tattoo collection, and Ed is an avid weightlifter/powerlifter, which he balances with a love for cooking and beer.
We have added Valley to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream Teen Mortgage‘s EP, Smoked in full on repeat!
