Establishing the mood with immersive synth keys and a vinyl frequency, before expanding into a vibrant dream pop energy with celestial detailing, Confidential opens his new single Slipping Away with the situational and introspective lyrics, “She checks the clock but not her phone, I wonder where did I go wrong, the way she’s staring in her zone like I’m psychic, confess my sins don’t know a pastor…”
Slipping Away evolves with an atmospheric vibe to touch on themes of the human condition, connectedness and a relationship breakdown. Speaking on the meaning of the track, Confidential confesses, “This is a very personal song about something I think a lot of people can relate to during the pandemic. It can be hard when feeling trapped in a small space and your mental health is suffering.”
The rising artist from Brighton elaborates, “It puts a massive strain on any relationship when you can feel it breaking down and you start wishing to go back to how things were before. The inspiration came from my own relationship, as well as others who weren’t so lucky to make it through to the other side of the toughest times during lockdowns.”
Confidential blends classical influences with old-school hip-hop production, and explores mental health issues to reflect his individualism and feeling of being an outsider.
The artist cites Powfu, 6LACK and Russ as influences, although it is clear that Confidential is creating a universe of his own.
We appreciate the honesty and vulnerability that Confidential shares with his artistry. A lyrical highlight from Slipping Away is the emotive and self-aware, “You want to leave understand that I just might let you, I can’t steal your choice in love…”
