Setting the tone with an orchestral wall of immersive sound, Alexander Saint opens his new single, Better with the self-aware lyrics, “Never thought I’d be the one who’d lead you on, thought I was a hero but I’m a wolf in your bed…”
Better expands into a luscious alternative soul energy with delectable vocals and intricate acoustic guitar, fused with atmospheric harmonies, textured risers and a euphoric folk-hybrid vibe that has us fully mesmerized.
The Toronto based artist touches upon the human condition, soulful truths, self-reflection and a fiery tenderness which cements his brand of cinematic and introspective storytelling, whilst creating an intentional and cathartic message of self-awareness for his wrongdoings.
We appreciate the poetic nuance in the lyricism as Alexander Saint sings, “Every word I said was poison, dripping from a silver tongue, I’d watch as it course though every inch of your veins…”, with reflection and awareness of the destructive effects of his actions.
Speaking on the intentional message of the song, Alexander Saint confesses, “I would come and go as I pleased with no real thought of how I might be affecting the other person’s emotions. Really me running away from my own emotions and satiating my own needs without considering others.”
He reflects, “I’ve been selfish and served my own self interests without taking into account other people’s feelings, I’ve never taken the time to understand myself and what I want out of life. I’ve taken advantage of relationships, and left a mess when I left. I wanted to put that feeling of finally admitting I’m not a great person, but I want to do better within a song.”
We appreciate Alexander Saint‘s brand of self-realized soul and have added Better to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we explore his wider discography including Showoff and The Light.
