Setting the tone with vocal textures fused with an elegant synthscape and glistening celestial details, Ariahindream opens her latest release, Selene with intrigue and the vulnerable lyrics, “I will not lie to you, I will not cry for you…”
Selene expands with percussive details to deliver an emotive and cinematic chill wave meets synth pop opus, with elements of trip hop, that questions the idea of eternal love, compatibility, and the early stages of falling in love with the wrong person.
We are hypnotized by Ariahindream‘s evocative presence on the track, and the depth of the narrative. Lyrical highlights include the intimate “Risking me and risking you”, and the open and emotional hook, “All of me, for yours, all of me, completely with my cause and my flaws…”
Speaking on the concept of the composition, Ariahindream confesses, “Selene is a frightened love song I created after being inspired by the love story of the Grecian Moon Goddess of the same name. She fell in love with a mortal shepherd, Endymion, but felt their love was doomed as she was immortal and he was not.”
Expanding on the narrative, Ariahindream shares, “Selene asked Zeus to grant Endymion eternal sleep so that he would never grow old or die, and so that she could love Endymion forever in a somewhat immortal form.”
The rising artist from London adds with nuance and depth, “I was fascinated by the myth’s underlying sadness. I felt deeply inspired by it. My gut reaction was exploring how- sometimes in relationships- there is an expectation to change or downplay aspects of who you are in order to be accepted by a beloved.”
Selene also comes with a mesmerizing music video featuring the moon, tenderly in the hands of the artist, along with waves and cosmic visuals which fit cohesively with the meaning of the song and take us out of this world into the mind and soul of the emerging artist and her intricate mind.
We appreciate the soundscape that Ariahindream has created with Selene and have added the song to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we stream her first two singles, Forever and Complicated.
