Setting the tone with a cosmic frequency and bold drums fused with a dimensional bass and percussive details, we are already hypnotized by WORLD GOVERNMENT‘s latest single, (Hardly) Lucky.
The subversive and conscious band opens the opus with the thought-provoking lyrics, “Look at the map, you could be here, lucky you’re in different place, lucky you are…”, as the song expands with an experimental electronic meets alternative rock frequency.
We appreciate the emotive vocal delivery and the detailed nuances in the production. The composition also comes with a cinematic music video which includes boxing scenes, astral moments, sparring, toy guns, censored bodies, graveyards and tonnes of symbolism.
The band asks us introspectively, “Do you feel lucky? Would you want a different world if you could make such a choice?”, encouraging us to go inward and reflect on current times.
Lyrical highlights include the profound, “Don’t wait for wake up calls, don’t test the false alarms…” and the moving, “Tomorrow never knows, what yesterday forgot…”
(Hardly) Lucky is fourth version in series of a genius concept multi-verse song Lucky. The other six iterations are called (Lightly) Lucky, Lucky (That Time), Lucky, Time Time Lucky, Lucky (Different Day, Different Way) and Lucky’s Last Life. We experience a lot of releases at KIMU HQ and we have to admit that this is the first time we have seen a band release a multi-verse song of this nature, so bravo WORLD GOVERNMENT.
The band elaborates, “Each version of the song isn’t exactly a remix, nor is a cover in normal sense of the word, but rather a version coming from a different parallel world.”
Speaking on (Hardly) Lucky, they confess, “This one is harsher, darker, more aggressive and, mostly likely, coming from a grittier and darker world, respectively.”
They add, “For quite some time Lucky was just one of the songs for an album that the band was working on. It wasn’t meant to be a single at first, let alone one packed with different versions.”
We have added (Hardly) Lucky to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we stream all seven versions of Lucky and explore each music video!
