Establishing the mood with synthesised vocal samples, percussive detailing and the lyrics, “You’re what we needed, what we believed in, you were the reason, the bigger meaning…”, Kritters open the FILLY remix of New York with vibrancy and atmosphere.
Coupled with a dimensional, hypnotizing psychedelic visual filmed and edited by FILLY, the release is a polished and intricate opus that has us transported to one of our favourite cities on planet Earth. The FILLY remix is a follow up to the original version of the song which has a more minimalist and emotive energy.
We appreciate the vocal production and elaborate soundscape of the remix, dubbed an “enlivening and magnetic retooled version” of the original.
Kritters is the musical project of New York duo Kirini O.K. and Robert Steadman. Kirini is an interdisciplinary artist, songwriter, and vocalist and Robert is a producer and multi- instrumentalist who received widespread acclaim as drummer for cult indie-folk band Stornoway.
When asked about the inspiration for New York, Kirini explains, “I had been thinking a lot about the time in my life when I lived in downtown New York City. It was, in retrospect, a remarkable way to grow up: right on Washington Square Park, right in the middle of the Village. When things were difficult in my life I escaped to the streets, and walked and walked. I was never alone; the city was my great friend.”
We have added the FILLY remix of New York to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we stream the original and Kritters‘s wider discography including Send me away.
