We recently featured juracán for his high concept and immersive single, Dame Todo, so we were thrilled to learn that he had just released the brand new song, My Mind.
Establishing the mood with intricate acoustic guitar and celestial tones, juracán opens My Mind with the introspective lyrics, “My mind is my worst enemy, it keeps playing games with me, I like to be in control, but that obsession must not go on…”
The song expands to featured lyricism touching upon the human condition from the rising artist. juracán confesses that, “My Mind is a song about dark moments where restlessness, anxiety, and worry take over.”
`The rising artist based in Portland continues, “I wrote the song at home on acoustic guitar and the first lyrical section came to me within a matter of minutes.”
Elaborating on the production of the track, juracán adds, “I met with Eric Leavell at the studio and I told him I wanted this song to move from this negative, ruminating mental space to a more open and hopeful place. We had been working recently on creating distinct sonic and thematic worlds for Dame Todo, so we followed our intuition once more.”
He expands, “The idea behind this songwriting approach is to take someone on a journey from darkness to hope. To responsibly and honestly tell a story about a dark moment while also showing the path and place where I find myself after relying on the light I have within. A light we all have. It’s easy to be bogged down by the rough moments in life, but music continues to help me through them, and hopefully help others as well.”
juracán‘s influences include genres such as bolero, merengue, bachata, salsa, latin pop, reggaetón, and other genres his parents and Dominican community cherishes. Influences such as post-rock, math rock, progressive rock, metal, sludge, soundtrack, ambient, R&B, jazz, improv, and pop music took priority during his teenage years.
We love the intention that juracán creates with and have added My Mind to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we stream his wider discography including Dame Todo and En Casa.
