Setting the tone with descending and emotive piano keys and a textured riser, Nakamax opens his new single, So bad with atmospheric vocals courtesy of singer, Noëm.
“I gotta pretend like I like it, clean up and smile, so they make a profit, I hope one day I find a place, where everyday’s meant to be great…” sings Noëm emotively as Nakamax expands the track with an immersive bassline and luscious strings.
We are hypnotized by the soundscape and vulnerability of the lyricism, written by Nakamax himself. Nakamax is a “forever sad and nostalgic yet optimistic person”, which helps him create these melancholic pieces of art, which often “reminisce about the past and hoping for a bright future”.
So bad was recorded in Montreal and we are in awe of the emotion that Noëm conveys in her delivery of the lyricism. A particular highlight is the empowering, “Screw all of those rules, I’ll do what I wanna do…”
Nakamax cites Illenium, Gryffin and Seven Lions as inspirations for the track, but it is clear that he is creating a universe of his own. Interestingly, Nakamax and Noëm had never met before the studio session. In order to prepare for the session, but once they were both in the studio with the engineer, the chemistry was there and the magic happened.
We have added So bad to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we explore Nakamax’ds wider discography including Run Away.
