Establishing the mood with a magnetic and immersive Aftrobeats frequency fused with vocal sample details, Tochi opens her new single Play Me with atmospheric vocals and the vulnerable lyrics, “Two o’clock in the morning, where you been baby I can’t sleep, at night I been calling…”
The song expands to tell the story of our protagonist whose relationship is not aligned, as Tochi asks, “how could you do this to me?” with reference to how her partner has played with her head.
We love Tochi‘s flow and delivery on Play Me, and how her emotion really comes through in the composition as she tells her story and shares her truth with the purpose of “reach[ing[ people world-wide”.
Sharing vulnerability as an artist is no small feat and we really appreciate the medium that Tochi has chosen to share her narrative. Speaking on the meaning of the track, she says, “Play Me is an Afro-beat [song] that depicts emotional breakdown and heartbreak in relationships and ways to overcome them.”
It is no surprise that Tochi has already seen some viral success on TikTok with her challenge (#tochiplaymechallenge) and she tells us “user engagement on my song has been amazing.”
We have added Play Me to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we stream Tochi‘s 2021 album, Hustle.
