Establishing the vibe with rolling drums and enigmatic, 90s grunge guitar, Aldís Fjóla opens her new single, Burn with intrigue and atmospheric vocals singing, “So it matters what they say, you’re stuck in their world, overthink your moves, afraid to step outside on your own…”
As the first track from her upcoming album, Aldís Fjóla tells us that Burn is “an anthem to yourself and believing in your path, even if it’s not the same as everyone else’s”. We love the powerful messages and lyrical highlights include the self-aware, “Crumbling down, on expectations from someone else…” and the empowering hook “Turn the page and rise above your fear, leave it all behind, burn it down…”
We are obsessed with the elegant guitar-work, the ethereal middle eight, and can imagine this featured in a 90s TV show like Buffy The Vampire Slayer.
Elaborating on the meaning of Burn, Aldís Fjóla confesses “It’s a conversation with myself about how we always beat ourselves down and how to find your own path when everyone has an opinion what you should do.”
Aldís Fjóla is an Icelandic musician from the rural area of Borgarfjörður eystra in East Iceland. Having shared the stage with different bands since she was sixteen, she has now started her solo career and writing from her own life lessons and disasters.
The rising artist is inspired by the people around her and uses her music to front her traumas and work through it. Her debut album, Shadows (2020), is a dramatized pop-rock and a dark and beautiful journey of East fjord Mist Melancholia.
We have added Burn to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we stream Aldís Fjóla‘s wider discography including Trapped and Wake Up!
